The definite articles in Portuguese

The definite articles are always placed before nouns in order to determine, individualize or highlight a being or an object. In Portuguese there are four definite articles o, a, os and as. They correspond in English to "the", nevertheless there are some peculiarities of Portuguese language that must be understood.
